The federal Volunteer Protection Act is found at 42 USC 139. Generally, it protects volunteers of charitable organizations from liability but there are some key components of it that should be understood. It does preempt state law where the two are inconsistent. However, if state law provides more protection to volunteers than federal law, then state law controls.
