United Jewish Appeal did not control operations of program it “sponsored” and funded; thus it is not liable. Grant-makers often worry about the potential for liability if someone is injured in a granted-funded activity. But, as this case illustrates, there is little likelihood of liability solely because a project was funded. A grantmaker will have to exercise much more control over the project than normal before liability is likely.
